What this site collects, in plain words.

The short version

This site has no accounts, no sign-up forms, and no ads. The only tracking we do is Google Analytics, and it only runs if you say yes. We use it to count visits and see which pages people read the most. That is the whole list.

Google Analytics, when you allow it

The first time you visit, a small notice asks whether we can load Google Analytics. Nothing from Google loads until you choose Allow. If you choose No thanks, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, the script never loads and you are not asked again for a year.

When it does run, Google Analytics records for us:

• the pages you view and the site that sent you here,
• your rough location (country and region) worked out from your network address, which Google does not store,
• your browser, device type, and screen size,
• a random identifier kept in cookies named _ga and _ga_<property> for up to two years, so a return visit is counted once instead of as a new person.

Google processes this on our behalf under Google's privacy policy. Google keeps the underlying event data for no more than fourteen months. We leave Google's advertising features off and do not connect the account to any ad product, so nothing here is used to build a profile of you or sold to anyone.

Changing your mind

Your answer is stored in your browser's local storage under the key datafication-analytics for twelve months, then we ask again. To change it sooner, use the Analytics link in the footer of any page. Choosing No thanks stops the script loading on your next page view. Clearing your browser's site data also clears the choice and the Google cookies.

Everything else the site stores or sends

• Theme. If you switch between light and dark, the choice is kept in local storage under datafication-theme. It never leaves your browser.
• Fonts. Pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts. Your browser fetches them from Google's servers, which see your network address in the process, the same as for any file on the web.
• Server logs. Our web host keeps ordinary access logs (the network address a request came from, what was asked for, and when) for a short time for security and troubleshooting. We do not use them to analyze traffic.

Your rights and how to reach us

Datafication is the data controller. We are an independent company in Pennsylvania, USA, and you can reach us at support@datafication.co. If you are in the EU, the UK, or anywhere else with a data protection law, you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to our using it, and you can complain to your local supervisory authority. In practice we hold nothing that identifies you, so the useful action is the Analytics link in the footer.

If this page changes in a way that matters, the date below moves and the notice will ask you again.
